Homoeopathic Physician's and Pharmacologist's Perspective in ParkinsonismGeneral View in Clinical Health SciencesParkinsonism is a chronic CNS disease that is associated with degeneration of the Basal Ganglia and Substantial Nigra. In particular, there is a deficiency of dopamine (a hormone) in the nigrostriated pathway i.e. Neurons with axons projecting from the substantia nigra to the basal ganglia (specifically the putamen and caudate nucleus). Parkinsonism almost always begins after age 40 (patients under 30 with Parkinson symptoms are more likely to have secondary Parkinsonism). males account for about 60% of the cases. Once set it is insidious with slow deterioration over a period of years. Secondary Causes: Head trauma, tumor in proximity to basal ganglia, toxins like Carbon Monoxide and Manganese; different drugs like: Phenothiazines, Haloperidol reserpine; CNS Diseases: Arteriosclerosis, Wilson's Disease, Huntington's Disease, Progressive Supranuclear Palsy, and different kinds of degeneration. Common Signs of Parkinsonism: Resting Tremors - that improves or disappears with voluntary movement is a key manifestation. Tremor in one hand is often the initial presentation. This tremor is made worse by emotional stress or fatigue. It is absent during sleep. Muscular Rigidity - this is perceived by the examiner on passive movement of a patient's extremity as a uniform resistance. (Lead-Pipe rigidity), Ratchet-like Sensation (Cog-Wheel rigidity). Bradykinesia - movement slow and deliberate Akinesia - voluntary movement diminished. There maybe difficulty in starting, stopping or continuing movements. Facial expression is diminished, eyes unblinking and mouth slightly ajar; speech is slow and soft; patient walks bent forward with a slow, shuttling and unsteady gait with the axons flexed and unswinging micrographia is often present; also depression and dementia are common. Management through Homoeopathic Medicine The true management according to Homoeopathic Physicians is done through Vital Energy in its universal application. Description: Vital Energy is that Force which animates each individual. While this energy is in the individual, that individual is said to have life, to be, to exist. Where there is vital force this is action, motion; action is one interpretation, one manifestation, of vital force. We speak of the inanimate as dead, yet with death this is always decay. We think of the earth and other plants as dead, yet they are in continual motion, according to their regular and defined direction through the universe, which has been observed and recorded by man. We may reason therefore, that since these great bodies have regular motion and direction, they are impelled by some force, some energy, which although it may not be what we have come to call vital energy, is in degree closely related to it. If therefore this force, this energy, actuates or permeates all forms and degrees of life from the most humble and inconspicuous to the very planets, we may reasonably assume that vital force is the most fundamental of all conditions of the universe, and that the laws governing the vital force in the individual are correlated with the laws which governs all vital force, all forms of energy, wherever or however expressed. If we have no motion, no action, no direction, without vital energy, it must be this energy which is responsible for all growth and all development in al spheres of existence. Like all laws, the laws governing vital force may be infringed to some degree. The privilege granted to human life. is the right of choice, and this right of choice implies degrees of choice. The planets, being set in their courses, have no right of choice and move always according to law. Human beings we know to exercise the right of choice, and herein is our province as physicians, for in making the choice, which is often a choice against natural laws, we find the vigor of the vital force abated and a retrograde action of the body, mind or spirit sets in. As we have pointed out before, the means of vital force perfection is growth and development; since there is no condition of standing still in nature, and infringement of natural laws means decay and death. The degree of the infringement, either in an individual or in his predecessors, determines the degree of decay and its speed. Since human beings as individuals have the right of choice, even in the face of the operation of the natural laws governing the vital energy, they have also been given those circumstances and conditions surrounding them which tend toward, a correct choice (direction), and aids to correct the mistakes already made and to regain the normal balance. Both these conditions are found in three spheres, the physical, the mental, and the spiritual. Prevention, Rejuvenation and Revitalization between the ages of 22 and 45 requires Dynamic Pharmacology for Parkinson-related neurological conditions.
